Oh, hell

Hey, guys! Vancouver didn't win the Stanley Cup! Too bad! And now a bunch of jackasses are setting things on fire! Fantastic! Stay classy, guys. Jesus. I'm so embarrassed to live here right now.

Title: One foot in sea and one on shore
Author: elly427
Rating: PG-15/R. End of the world. Angst. AU.
Summary: "I feel like I've been waiting my whole life for this." He smiles awkwardly and shoots a tight grin her way. "Is that strange?" Kara and Lee, slightly less damaged, all over again.
Soundtrack: Blue Rodeo, 5 Days in May. Title from Mumford and Sons 'Sigh No More.'
A/N: I have no idea where this came from, beyond a sudden yearning for Kara/Lee modern apocalypse fic and a desire to write a fic using our f-word instead of ‘frak.’ I have also been trying to write a fic with '5 days in May' for inspiration since I joined fandom. Here this is.

Sometimes the world begins / To set you up on your feet againCollapse )

Flist! I am stuck away from home without my tivo and the internets are utterly failing me. Who spoiler for a spoiler for tonight's GleeCollapse )
Happy New Years, all.

Hope none of your New Year's Eves ended like this:Collapse )

My fannish wish for 2011 is to find something new worth being fannish again. I miss my squeee, and all of you.

Merry Christmas, muffins.
"It's the crazy notion that the longest, coldest, darkest nights can be the warmest and brightest. And when we all agree to support each other in that insanity something even crazier happens. It becomes true. Works every year. Like clockwork."

is, bar none, my favorite show on tv right now.

Flist! I need your help and/or advice!

My downstairs neighbour sometimes plays loud, bass-y music. I know I am extra sensitive to bass, but at this point my entire living room is vibrating. It's pretty much midnight here (Midnight on a Saturday, but I gots places to be in the morning.)

HALP. What do I do?

Please to note I am a single lady, and not super comfortable going to talk to them alone. Plus: in my pjs. If I leave a note tomorrow, is that too passive agressive? Do I call the building manager and get her to talk to them? Or the property manager from whom I rent?

Me, or not me.

I managed to wear two different shoes to work today. Sadly this is not the first time. I only noticed because one leg felt shorter than the other.

In other news, I suddenly adore Prince William and Kate Middleton. I'm no monarchist but I am stupidly excited for the wedding. That being said, my 12-year-old self is somewhere sulking, very upset about this. She still would love Kate's dress in the engagement photos I think.

I have so little to say these days so maybe this will spark something:

I think it would be fun to talk about stories, but the usual memes are like, "What happens next?" or "Tell me about Character A?" That isn't so much talking about stories as it is writing more of a story. But you know how sometimes you read something and you're like, "I got ___ out of this story, I wonder if that's right?" or "What on earth was ____ supposed to be?" and it's too awkward to ask the author? Now you could totally ask!

I've heard people say that writing is hard because you have to make decisions, but we never really talk about the decisions we make with stories or why we make them. We talk about plot bunnies, but not about how we actually turn them into a story.

And it seems like a lot more fun than work.

Ask me questions!

What were you trying to do [here]? Why did you decide to ____? This is what I thought about xyz; is that what you were going for? What made you write ____? And so on.

Most of my fic should be tagged here.

Why yes, I have had Metric's 'Fantasies' on repeat these last few days.

Oh, seriously

(Part two of my series "there are really only two kinds of people in the universe: those who like x, and those who like y.)"

Truth: I only found out 'Here Comes the Sun' is a Beatles song recently. I know. I KNOW.

*runs around flapping arms*

(thanks to all who confirmed I was not crazy last night! I don't know what fixed it, and I kind of don't care)

*looks pathetic*

If anyone's around, could you try clicking on the link below to my journal and let me know if you get an error message or if you can get to my journal page?

Uh. I can't get to my journal mainpage. Friends list is fine, I can log in fine, but going to my actual journal gives me a "this page is missing" and an evil goat. Eeep?

Lesson I should have learned from HP: reading an entire book in one evening: not the best idea. My eyes are sore and my head is spinning and I am guranteed to have weird, Panem-based dreams tonight.

This is not well organized, but well.

Let's pretend I didn't sprint through the bookstore 'whooooooooooooo!'-ing once I had procured my copy. Because that would be childish.Collapse )
Mockingjay tomorrow, which means it's time for me to post my Catching Fire fic.

Title: Sleep to dream her
Author: elly427
Summary: Wish I could bend my love to hate her / Wish I could be her creator / To twist her arms now
Rating: Teen. Peeta/Katniss. Violence.
Disclaimer: Not mine.
AN: Title from Dave Matthews Band. Originally this was intended to be a multi-character piece about what minor characters in the Hunger Games 'verse dream about since Katniss’s dreams are such a large part of Catching Fire, but I’ve only ever been happy with the Peeta part so here it is.
Also: I am a terrible person.

Balloon choreography, y'all. Balloon choreography.

BC Day!

I have been led to believe Americans do not have an August long weekend. I refuse to believe that is true. Is it because of your extra long Thanksgiving? Why wouldn't you want a day off in summer?

Sorry for the outburst of patriotism

Hapy Canada Day!

Because really, what's more Canadian than a white guy from Nova Scotia rapping whilst wearing a plaid Quebec Nordiques hat?Collapse )

(Except maybe thisCollapse )which had me sobbing a little.)

Today I am off to Lilith Fair, which I mostly bought tickets to because my 16 year old self was really angry that the original tour never made it to Halifax. Now I am sort of ambivilent, and most excited to see Sugarland which is 50% male. Huh.

grey skies won't seem to clear up

Dear Livejournal,

I am pretty sure that if I wanted to see the most popular posts on ohnotheydidnt, I would be a member, thanks.

Also, I better have an option to opt out of having my posts appear in that "recent posts" thingy.

(Though I kind of can't wait for the day when someone's explicit NC-17 underage/slash/polyamorous/kink fic ends up linked there. Sigh.)
